EXPERT'S OPINION:
Query: I am looking for information on calcification of the brain in infants under one year. Any details you could provide or pointers as to where I can find information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer: Calcification in the brain could be because of various causes such as Tuberculosis, infections in the baby due to some infection acquired during pregnancy such as rubella, toxoplasmosis and other infections. Some of the other causes of brain calcifications are malignancies and tumors. The commonest cause of calcification in an infant is congenital infections acquired when still in the uterus. The type of infection can be determined by other tests and related clinical symptoms. Other conditions such as genetic disorders are quite rare.
