News Letter March 2010
Dear Subscriber:
New features on www.pediatriconcall.com for this month:
EXPERT'S OPINION:

Query: Yesterday my son was playing with home grown Dalmatian dog which is 2.5 yrs of age. While playing my son got little scratch and blood got clotted but did not come out {something like if we pinch hardly and it becomes black spot}. We were also not sure if he got the wound while playing with dog, or from something else. The dog is regularly vaccinated since Dec-2007. The latest anti rabies {Rabivac Vet by Brilliant Industries} was given to dog on 27-12-2008 and the next due is on 27-12-2009. In this scenario do I have to give my son any pre, post exposure rabies treatment?

Answer: If the dog is adequately vaccinated for antirabies and does not show signs of rabies, one may withhold antirabies vaccination in the child. Else one can give the child 3 doses of ARV and if the dog is alright even after 10 days, then one can withhold the remaining doses of ARV in the child.

These are questions asked by the users of pediatriconcall. The answers are what the expert has to say. You can also send in your medical query by filling in the "QUERY" on
