Question
Hi sir , what is physiology and pathogenesis of febrile seizures? what are predisposing factors for febrile seizures? which viral and bacterial agents mainly cause them
Answer
Pathogenesis: There is significant genetic component for susceptibility of febrile seizures with different reported mutation. Correlation with immunologic problems through interleukin, cytokines, immunoglobulin and interferon have also been postulated. Also, reports on correlations between febrile seizures and iron deficiency anemia, zinc deficiency have been published. Children having first or second degree relatives with a history of febrile seizures, neonatal nursery stay of more than 30 days, developmental delay or attendance at a day care center are at increase risk of developing febrile seizures.
Viruses are the most common cause of febrile seizures.
